The Observatory Problem

Standard · Standard Cycle

The final alignment has begun. One by one the six suns will set, until only red Dovim remains — and then the unseen moon will swallow even Dovim, and the Stars will come out.

Your task: Gather fuel. Plant torches to hold back the dark. Recover evidence from the ridge. Reach the Observatory and decide what must be said before the last light fails. Then choose what to preserve when the night arrives.

Nightfall: The Observatory Problem — Option A

A short, replayable literary game built for the classroom as an interpretive companion to Isaac Asimov's 1941 novelette Nightfall.

This game is an adaptation, not a replacement for the story. As you play, notice what the game turns into rules: light, fear, evidence, public trust, and memory. Your goal is not only to survive Nightfall, but to decide what should be preserved when the light returns.

Story & world of Kalgash after Isaac Asimov, Nightfall (1941). No copyrighted story text is reproduced here; all in-game fragments are original paraphrase.
Pulp "Option A" art direction, 3D world of six suns, and classroom design assembled with AI assistance and human direction.
AI disclosure: visual assets, code, and text in this build were produced with generative-AI tools under human curation.

the light went out of you
COLLAPSE
You stood too long in the dark, and something in you went out like a candle. Somewhere behind you a city is burning — its people setting fire to everything they love, just to see. The record is not closed. It may be reopened.
